Blacksmith Forging and Horse Shoe Pitching Competition

Blacksmith Forging and Horse Shoe Pitching Competition

More About Blacksmith Forging and Horse Shoe Pitching Competition

Check in on Saturday morning will start at 7 AM, the first forging class will start at 8 AM and we should quit about dusk or sooner.

On the 27th the start time will be 8 AM and we'll go until we're done.

Willoughby forge will be hosting a forging competition at the Lake county fair grounds in Indiana. Roy Bloom will be the judge. Teams of two will be required to make two pitching shoes on Saturday, then all the teams that qualify to the specs ( judges ruling is final) will be in a horseshoe pitching tournament the next day using the shoes that they made on Saturday.
The teams will also be required to forge a Steak turner on the same day as the pitching shoes are made.

Propane forges only. Steel will be provided. Each team must make a pair of pitching shoes.

The teams will have from 8:00 AM until 3:30 PM on Saturday to complete their steak turners and pitching shoes. That way no one can say they didn’t have enough time, the teams should manage their own time when the Chuck is served at noon so manage your time wisely!

Then on that evening they will be auctioned off to the public, the proceeds that your steak turner brings is given to the team that made it, so the cooler the better!

There will be a entry fee of $150 per team and that includes two meals a day served off of the Handu Chuck Wagon. There will be a cash payout for the top 3 teams that place 1st , 2nd and third in the pitching tournament.

THE PUBLIC IS INVITED AT NO CHARGE TO COME AN OBSERVE SOME OF THE BEST BLACKSMITHS IN THE USA AND BE PART OF THE LIVE AUCTION on Saturday evening OF SOME FINE FORGED ITEMS! In addition to the auction of steak turners on Saturday evening, where the proceeds go directly to the contestants, we will have a auction for St. Jude's hospital of a variety of forged and fabricated items donated by some of the contestants.

call Willoughby Forge for team registration. (219)256-0532 or questions.
The entry deadline is noon on the 15th of September.
