Valparaiso University is currently hiring for a variety of positions, including Landscape Tech I and Landscape Tech II – Mechanic.
POSITIONS
LANDSCAPE TECH I – Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
The position will perform maintenance duties with the responsibility for the appearance and general care of all aspects of University grounds including but not limited to parking lots, roads, walkways, exterior signage, snow removal, salt spreading, plantings, mowing, and trash pick-up.
Major Responsibilities:
Maintain campus ground, roads, parking lots, walkways, signage, plantings, storm water drainage, manhole pumping, etc.
Mow, trim and edge turf areas using riding mower, push mower, weed whip and edger
Mulch, weed, aerate, and trim and edge around beds, pathways and walls
Prune trees and shrubs; propagation, transplanting, removal of trees and shrubs, weeding, etc.
Prepare planting beds with hand and power tools; plant bulbs, flowers, ground covers, trees and shrubs; apply mulch
Install hardscape and landscape furniture
Rake and remove leaves
Perform snow and ice removal with hand tools and power equipment and apply road salt and ice-melting agents to sidewalks, stairs, and parking lots
Hauling (snow, spoils, dirt, sand, gravel, etc.)
Ensure grounds are clean and free of trash and debris
Complete work orders and communicate the status when resolved or an update is appropriate
Perform furniture moves as per work orders
Complete the set-up and tear-down for campus events
LANDSCAPE TECH II - Mechanic Monday - Friday 6:00am - 2:00pm
This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, servicing, maintaining and repairing landscape equipment and the department’s motor vehicles.
Major Responsibilities:
· Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on various vehicles and landscape equipment such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks
· Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in equipment and vehicles such as repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems and other components, providing effective solutions
· Maintain and repair company vehicles, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards
· Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
· Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components
· Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery
· Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed on equipment and vehicles
· Manage inventory of spare parts and order necessary supplies to maintain a well-stocked and organized shop
· Assist with landscape services, moves and set-ups and winter snow removal services as needed and instructed by supervisor
