More About Kitaro Surf & Turf & Sushi

John and Carrie KITARO are pleased to announce the opening of the new KITARO Surf & Turf and Sushi restaurant in Munster, Indiana.

Executive Chef John has over 30 years in the restaurant industry, with over 30 years specializing in the preparation of exquisite Sushi dishes. He brings to your table not only the best sushi available, but also stunning presentations of each dish that comes to your table.

We would like to give you a little history of how KITARO started.

John and Carrie decided that they would like to start their own Sushi and Grill restaurant and opened their first place in Lemont, Illinois in February 2009. We named the new venture KITARO which means “Happy Man”. It quickly became the “go-to” spot in Lemont for both causal dining and that “special occasion". We could greet you by name when you came in and knew your tastes and guide you through the expansive menu. Success came quickly, and we began to outgrow the Lemont location.

We began a search for a second and bigger location almost 5 years ago. The Northwest region of Indiana has a market and demand for a Japanese fine dining restaurant. We found the ideal location in Munster Indiana at Centennial Village located on Calumet Ave, south of Interstate 80. Unfortunately for us, we could no longer operate both locations given the distance between them. We were very fortunate to be able to sell our Lemont location to people that love the business like we do and continue to operate and grow KITARO in Lemont.

The KITARO Surf & Turf & Sushi, Munster is a 4000 sq. ft. restaurant that has seating for 140, large bar, patio dining for 40, and a private dining room that will seat 50. You will find the atmosphere modern and alive with energy. Our expanded bar will offer full service cocktail, fine wine, sake and handcrafted cocktail. Full service take-out is also available. We are open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week.

Our new and expanded menu will include a large selection of top quality steaks, seafood and Sushi. We believe that we have created the best of both Modern Asian cuisine and an upscale steakhouse for your dining pleasure.

Come and meet us. John will be the “Kitaro” (Happy Man) behind the Sushi Bar and Carrie will greet you at the door. Soon we will also know your names!
