More About Parents of Adopted Teens and Adopted Teens Support Group; Ithaca

Come hang with other adoptive parents, share food, laughter and experiences while your adopted teens have their own space!
Oooof… We know what you’re going through!
Teen years are tough, and our adopted teens add a multi-layered complexity that makes things even tougher. These are the years where they begin defining themselves, and at times without your supervision. Scary, we know, but they never stop being your children and deserving of our attention!
Please join us at this monthly gathering for parents of teenage adoptees, where you can find other adoptive parents with teens and offer support, discuss experiences, and share current information relevant to adoption, trauma and families.
Your teens are invited to come.
While parents gather, there will be a separate meeting for teens facilitated by adult adoptees. A range of fun artistic activities will be introduced to the teens at each session which include art-making, dance, and more! Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Come share and learn with us!

More About this Event Poster: Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York

Founded in 1975, the Coalition unites adoptive and foster parent groups, concerned agencies and individuals throughout the Empire State. We represent the families’ viewpoint and work to improve and expand the services available to children and families.

Our goals are to:

Educate and support foster, kinship and adoptive parents and the professionals who serve them through information-sharing, services, peer support and referral.
Improve services available to children and families
Increase citizen involvement in local service planning and delivery
Educate leaders and stakeholders about the realities, challenges and rewards of foster, kinship and adoptive parenting
Advocate for greater support of foster, kinship and adoptive families by federal, state and local agencies

Our Mission: The Coalition unites foster, adoptive and kinship care families, giving them a voice and providing support, information and advocacy. By fostering communication and collaboration between families, agencies and concerned citizens, we seek to ensure the stability, well-being and permanency of all children touched by the child welfare system.

Our Vision:That no foster, adoptive or kinship care family in New York State will feel alone or unsupported and that all such families will have the tools, support and community they need to nurture their children and be role models for others.
