More About Auditions for Doubt, A Parable by John Patrick Shanley
Lafayette, LA, February 1, 2023: Auditions will be held for the first play of Cité des Arts’ 2023 Season, DOUBT, A PARABLE by John Patrick Shanley, on February 19, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., In this brilliant and powerful drama, winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award, Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of improper relations with one of the male students.
We are looking to cast 4 roles (1 man and 3 women):
Sister Aloysius: 50s-70s; Sister Aloysius is a middle-aged nun who serves as the principal of St. Nicholas School. A strict disciplinarian, she is committed to what she sees as the traditional ways of running a Catholic school.
Father Brendan Flynn: 30s-40s; Father Flynn is a generally well-liked and affable priest at St. Nicholas Church and School. Unlike Sister Aloysius, he believes that the Catholic Church needs to make an effort to be more progressive and relate to the general public.
Sister James: 18-20s; Sister James is a young nun at St. Nicholas School. A person with “sunshine in her heart,” she wants to be the kind of teacher students feel comfortable talking to about their problems. Innocent and naïve according to Sister Aloysius
Mrs. Muller: 40s-50s; Mrs. Muller is Donald Muller’s mother. She is strict, quiet, and does her best to avoid confrontation when it comes to the concerns of Sister Aloysius to protect her son.
The show begins rehearsals on March 6 and will run at Cité des Arts May 19 - 28, 2023.
