The Alexandré Mouton House/Lafayette Museum and the Lafayette Public Library System present Guest Speaker, Maida Owens, Folklife Program Director and cultural anthropologist, specializing in Louisiana traditional cultures. She will talk about her book "Swapping Stories-Folktales from Louisiana." Hundreds of storytellers were interviewed in the compilation of this book published in 1997.

A video documentary film produced by PBS under her direction, also titled "Swapping Stories" will be shown prior to the lecture. The film features some of the finest storytellers identified in this folklife project.

Doors open at 1:30. Seating is Limited for the FREE event.
Refreshments will be served.

House Museum located in the heart of downtown Lafayette. The original structure was built in early 1800's by Jean Mouton, the founder of Vermilionville (current Lafayette). It later became home to Louisiana's 12th Governor, Alexandre Mouton. Now restored to its 1850's grandeur,it serves as a repository of the history and culture of Acadiana.
