McHenry, MD – Garrett College Continuing Education and Workforce Development has scheduled a class, Introduction to Wind Energy, at the College’s main campus in McHenry on Thursdays, April 5 to 26, from 6 p.m. until 9:15 p.m.

This course will provide students with an informed view of wind power. From its antiquated history to modern sophisticated designs, wind power has supplied needed resources to many people for hundreds and hundreds of years. This all-encompassing course will cover many facets including history, engineering, design, environment and safety.

Students will gain insight on the future of the wind industry and the challenges ahead. The overall objective of this course is to provide the local community and any curious student with accurate knowledge of the growing industry.

The course lecture will be given by Matthew Carney. He is a well-traveled reliability engineer for Exelon Corporation (owner of three local wind farms). On a daily basis, he provides recommendations for continued improvement in operations and maintenance of several local wind farms. Carney graduated from the University of Maryland's Clark School of Engineering and continues study at Purdue University.
