More About Scottish Country Dancing to be offered in McHenry

McHenry, MD –Continuing Education and Workforce Development of Garrett College will be offering Scottish Country Dancing at the main campus in McHenry on Fridays, February 16 to March 16, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

This five-week beginners class is perfect for people with no or limited experience in Scottish Country Dancing. Our class will help you enjoy social dancing and is a great way to keep fit, make friends, de-stress and have some fun! Scottish Country Dancing, the social dancing of Scotland, has been enjoyed in the barns, ballrooms and village halls of Scotland for at least 250 years. Come and learn the steps, the dance formations and enjoy the music. Best to wear soft soled sneakers, jazz or ballet shoes if you have them! No partner or kilt required!

The course is being instructed by a variety of individuals to include Ellen Ternes, Becky Corbett and Bill Wallace. Ellen Ternes has been teaching Scottish Country dancing since 2001 and still loves it! Scottish Country dancing is great exercise, great music, and great for the brain. Becky first discovered Scottish Country Dancing at a Scottish Festival somewhere around 2002 and has been hooked ever since. The exhilarating music, the sense of accomplishment at learning a new figure or mastering a tricky dance, the life-long friendships made – all combines to create a unique and wonderful art form. She has been teaching the Potomac Highlands Scottish Country Dancers in Cumberland, MD since 2014. Bill Wallace fell in love with Scottish Country Dancing the first time he saw it. The fabulous music, the interactions of the dancers as they go through the figures and the smiles! Bill has been dancing for 12 years and teaching for 4 years in the Baltimore/Washington area and Cumberland.
