More About Edible Wild Plants course scheduled at McHenry

McHenry, MD – Garrett College is sponsoring a two-session course, Edible Wild Plants, at Garrett College’s main campus in McHenry. Class will be held on Thursdays, April 19 and 26, 5:30 - 8:45 p.m.

Edible wild plants are everywhere. Why eat edible wild plants? Well, there are many reasons to consume wild plants, but two of the main reasons are: one, they are free, and two, they are highly nutritious. Participants will spend half the class outside getting hands on experience identifying these plants, while the rest of the class will be dedicated plant identification, reviewing sources for identifying plants, going over ways to use these plants in our daily lives, and trying some yummy samples prepared using wild plants.

A notebook, pencil, and camera are helpful tools for this class. The class is geared for ages 15 and older, but younger folks are welcome with adult supervision.

The instructor for this course will be Chris Hull. He has an associate of applied science degree in natural resources and wildlife technology. He has several years of experience instructing and leading guided hikes, programs dealing with wilderness survival, edible and medicinal wild plants, and many other nature-oriented programs.

Course registration fee applies. To register for this course contact Garrett College Continuing Education and Workforce Development at 301-387-3069.
