Many say that someone who takes their own life does so to end their pain and to end their sadness. Sadly, for those who have lost themselves to suicide, that pain and sadness does not die with them. It seeps into the hearts of those who cared for them and changes their lives irrevocably. This transfer of emotion and the strength required to survive while bearing it is not something society talks about. Suicide and mental health as a whole are not topics that society talks about. It’s time for that to change, because no one individual can carry that pain of loss on their own.

In 2013, John Bauer lost his daughter to suicide, and since then, he’s made it his mission to break the community silence regarding suicide and mental illness, provoke dialogue on these topics, and break the stigma surrounding them. To do so, he and forty other Minnesota artists created a traveling art exhibit titled What’s Left. For the past two and a half years, the exhibit has visited towns all across our state, and in order to continue their work, they need your support.

Join us this May at “Love in Darkness” for drinks, dinner, and a silent auction supporting What's Left. The art exhibit itself will displayed and some of the contributing artists will be sharing their stories about life after suicide and the mental health struggles that are all the more common than we think.
