Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, NJ is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to serving all members of the community, including children with autism and other special needs.

Mayo Performing Arts Center is meeting a growing need as a staggering 2.5% of children in New Jersey are diagnosed with autism, compared to the national average of 1.5%.

In time for Autism Awareness Month in April, Mayo Performing Arts Center is offering the following programming -

The Miracle Project
• Mayo Performing Arts Center is the only provider of The Miracle Project in New Jersey and one of only three providers in the country, with weekly programming offered as part of two semesters during the year. The Miracle Project at MPAC combines an inclusion-based arts education program with the use of student aides and peers in the classroom.
o Pioneered by Elaine Hall, The Miracle Project is an evidenced-based, award-winning program that uses music, dance and theatre to unlock the creativity, personalities and amazing potential of children.
o The groundbreaking program welcomes children into the performing arts community, and builds communication, social skills and self-esteem through inclusive theater and expressive arts.
o The final class will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 6 pm on the main stage and is open to the public.

Sensory-Friendly Programming
These upcoming sensory-friendly performances create a supportive, welcoming experience for children on the autism spectrum, featuring modulated sound and lighting and a relaxed environment where the audience is free to talk, vocalize, and leave and re-enter the seating area.

• “Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site”
o Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 12:15 pm
o About the show: Bedtime is approaching, and a team of construction vehicles needs to get their rest. But Crane Truck is cranky, Cement Mixer takes too long with bath time, and Dump Truck isn't sleepy! Excavator and Bulldozer find that preparing for bed is a job in itself! • “Pete the Cat”
o Monday, April 23, 2018 at 4:00 pm
o About the show: Groovy, rockin’ Pete the Cat sets out to turn the super square lives of the family he moves in with upside down in this far out, fun adventure based on the popular book series. Ages 4-10

Starlight Gallery Art Exhibit
• The Mayo Performing Arts Center’s Starlight Gallery will display artwork by special needs students from The Calais School now through May 3.
o Located in Whippany, The Calais School provides special education for students ages 5 to 21 with special needs including ADHD, reading and math weaknesses, and anxiety, mood, behavior and autism spectrum disorders.
