More About A Tuna Christmas

The cast and crew of Encore Theatre is taking audiences on trip to Tuna, Texas, to celebrate Christmas, the story of Texas’ third smallest town’s Christmas lawn display contest. It has become a most entertaining and successful theatre production.
“We had originally thought of this show as one of our featured “Radio Shows” but with the encouragement of several patrons we decided to do the full production,” explained James Bealor, Encore’s Creative Director.

All 22 roles in “A Tuna Christmas” are played by two actors. For this year the roles are played by James Bealor, Creative Director and Facilities Director, Don Breedwell. Both are long-time actors and are familiar with difficult acting roles which come with intricate timing.
The 22 characters that Bealor and Breedwell portray are in a tizzy about the mysterious Christmas Phantom, who’s vandalizing Christmas decorations and threatening Vera Carp’s chances of winning the yard-display contest for the 15th year in a row.

“A Tuna Christmas” is also co-directed by the duo. The playwrights Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard were Breedwell’s inspiration when he was able to interview them in the late 80’s after seeing their TPAC premiere performance. The show is presented under special arrangements with Samuel French, New York, NY.

The show requires two quick-change dressers for each actor to help with the amazingly fast costume changes for 22 characters. Each performance involves:
11 wigs, beards and mustaches
16 shoes and boots
10 pairs of glasses
13 hats and caps.
The quickest costume change is six seconds.

“A Tuna Christmas” opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 2nd. It runs at 7:30 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays, (November 2-3 and November 9 and 10) There’s two Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m., November 4 and 11. Encore Theatre is located at 6978 Lebanon Road, Mt Juliet, ¼ mile west of Hwy 109.
