Meet some of the area’s best fly tyers and watch them demonstrate a variety of fly patterns at the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance Early Show on Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St. in Oak Brook.

Guest speakers will be professional fly tyer Dennis Potter and Robert Thompson, fly tyer and author of two books on fly fishing, who will give presentations throughout the day.

The show will also feature demonstrations from more than 25 of the area’s best fly tyers, free casting lessons from certified casting instructors; spey-casting demonstrations with tips on matching the line to the rod; sales representatives from pro tyers, fishing guides, and shops.

Kids can look through a high-powered microscope to view bugs that fish eat; participate in a free fly-tying program with materials and tools provided; and find out more about Forest Preserve District outdoor and youth programs.

Admission is $10 per person; kids 12 and under are free. Registration is not required. For more information, call 630-206-9566. The program is cosponsored by the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance and DuPage Rivers Fly Tyers.

“This family-friendly event is a great way for anyone who enjoys any type of fishing to spend an afternoon,” said Janneke Fowers, Mayslake cultural education manager. “The DuPage Forest Preserve District is proud to host this unique event every year. You’re never too young or too old to start fly-fishing or learn something new.”
