Hawaii is home to many spectacular animals and plants found no where else. Over the years, there has been increased habitat loss and many other threats to native wildlife and plants. Learn what is being done to restore native forests and to conserve endangered bird species on the Big Island as Amy shares participated in some of these conservation efforts., including collaborations between the government and NGOs. Find out how some projects are addressing the impact of invasives in order to help with the recovery of native plants and animals.

Amy will also address the effect of recent volcanic activity on the Big Island and its marine ecosystems. She will also share some of her encounters with some of Hawaii's local marine life.

Mass Audubon's Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary's offers nine miles of scenic walking trails through fields, woods, and along the Charles River include a 1/4-mile wheelchair accessible trail and boardwalk along Indian Brook. The eco-friendly Visitor Center, a renovated historic horse barn, features solar heat and electricity, rainwater collection and composting toilets. The Nature Center is open: Tues- Fri, 9 a.m. -5 p.m., Sat-Sun, and Mon. holidays, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Trails are open: Tues-Sun, and Mon. holidays, dawn to dusk.
