Art Squared Street Festival

Art Squared Street Festival

More About Art Squared Street Festival

The Fountain Square Merchants Association will host its annual Art Squared Street Festival with activities scheduled in the near-downtown neighborhood all day. Visitors can purchase art, create art, watch it being created during the annual Masterpiece in a Day competition, enjoy an Art Parade and cap off the evening with the 901 Block Party. All events are free to visitors, and are family-friendly.

To accommodate the welcomed opening of the Red Line IndyGo bus down Virginia Avenue, Art Squared Street Festival has shifted to Prospect and Shelby Sts. and Woodlawn Ave., just east of Virginia Ave. Attendees are encouraged to use the Red Line to attend Art Squared Street Festival to help minimize parking issues. The bus line will be free for the weekend, and also creates easy access to the nearby Hollar on the Hill, just south on Shelby St. in Garfield Park.

The Art Fair will line all three streets 11 am-6 pm, pausing at 5 pm for the Art Parade which originates at the Southeast Community Services Center at 901 S. Shelby St. An enlarged children’s area will be open 12-4 pm featuring chalk art, games, and a balloon animal artist. Meanwhile, the Masterpiece in a Day competition will host visual artists, writers, and musicians scattered throughout the area as they create their original pieces before the 3pm deadline. Visitors are welcome to watch the art in action as participants will work outdoors and around the general public. All of the completed artwork, as well as the winning work, will be viewable at the Southeast Community Services Youth Center, 924 S. Shelby St., until 7 pm. A block party in the parking lot of the Southeast Community Services Center will wrap up the evening.

Schedule:

9-11 am: Visual Artist and Writer registration for Masterpiece in a Day, 924 S. Shelby St.

10-11 am: Musician registration for Masterpiece in a Day, 924 S. Shelby St.

11 am-6 pm: Art Fair on Prospect, Shelby and Woodlawn

5 pm: Art Parade winds through the festival, originating at 901 S. Shelby St.

6-7 pm: 901 Block Party at Southeast Community Services Center parking lot, 901 Shelby St.

6:15-7 pm: All MIAD category winners announced, all work available for viewing.
Art Squared and its accompanying Masterpiece in a Day has been a staple of September in Fountain Square for about 20 years. Its overall goal has been to increase the visibility of the neighborhood and to show neighborhood support of artists and the arts in the community. The Art Squared Street Festival is the premiere event for the main sponsor, the Fountain Square Merchants Association, and the well-organized event is continually a favorite among artists, families, and general visitors for its deeply-ingrained fun, friendly, and creative atmosphere.
