People frequently ask how I came up with the name Guilded Lynx for the studio. I have my own metals studio at home. Due to my husband’s severe allergy to cats, my three cats live there. Being cats, they are both curious and mischievous. There is no part of my bench that they have not explored and wrecked havoc on! I have always joked that they are my gilded cats since gold is my preferred metal to work with.

When it came time to find a name for the studio The Gilded Cat immediately came to mind but it didn’t have quite the right ring to it. It occurred to me that gilded not only means golden but a guild is a place where artists come together to work, the exact sort of place that I hoped to create. Links is obvious, part of a piece of jewelry, but it also means something that connects one thing to another, as the studio connects artists to the world of metalsmithing and jewelry making.

Around the same time that I was considering names I had the thrilling experience of having a bobcat run in front of my car. A bobcat is a type of lynx. And so the Gilded Cat became the Guilded Lynx.
