More About ELECTRONIC WASTE RECYCLING AND BRUSH DROP OFF

This program is open on the following Saturdays from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.

This event is available to MCHENRY TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS ONLY.

NO drop off of recycling items during the week.

The Road District is again partnering with The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County for our recycling program.

TEXTILES
All textiles (clothes, blankets, towels, etc.) shoes accepted at no charge. Items can be worn out, holes in them, torn but they must be clean.

LIGHT BULBS
4-foot fluorescent bulbs accepted at a cost of $.50 each.
8-foot fluorescent bulbs accepted at a cost of $1.00 each.
Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) and LEDs accepted at a cost of $.50 each. All other styles of fluorescent bulbs accepted at a cost of $.50 each. Regular light bulbs can be disposed of in your curbside recycling or trash.

STYROFOAM
All #6 Styrofoam accepted at no charge.
Commercial and food grade, including colored is all accepted.
Foam must be free of non-styrofoam debris (tape, glue, etc.). Food stained items are accepted if clean. Wallboard insulation is NOT accepted due to the fireproof ingredients used in the manufacturing process. This item can be thrown away. Foam sheeting is currently NOT being accepted. Bubble wrap and bubble packs are NOT being accepted.

PACKING PEANUTS
Packing peanuts are accepted if they are in a clean dry box or bag. Packing peanuts are NOT recyclable but they are reusable. They are collected and then reused.

BATTERIES
All types of batteries are accepted.
Common household batteries, A, C, D, AA, AAA, Lithium, Ni-Cad, Button and NI-MH are accepted at a cost of $1.00 per pound. Lead batteries (car, motorcycle, sump pump, marine) are accepted at no charge.

CD’S AND DVD’S
These items are all accepted at no charge. The covers, plastic cases, packaging DO NOT have to be removed. VHS tapes can be disposed of in your trash.

ELECTION SIGNS AND THE LIKE
The signs and metal are accepted at no charge. They must be clean.

ELECTRONICS
The following items are accepted at no charge.

Printers, scanners, fax machines, typewriters, stereos and speakers.
Vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, and rug shampooers.
Electric Power Tools, both industrial and hobby.
Small counter-top household appliances (toasters, blenders, coffee makers, etc.).
Computers, servers, laptops and related accessories.
Electronic games and keyboards.
Microwaves, toaster and pizza type ovens.
Humidifiers, de-humidifiers, air purifiers.
Cell phones, tablets, I-Pods.
Hair dryers, razors, electric toothbrushes, and water picks.

PAINT
Latex or oil paint only (gallon size or smaller containers).

BRUSH
Brush, branches and twigs must be no larger than 8 inches in diameter, and 10 feet maximum length. Grass clippings, leaves, rubbish, branches or logs containing dirt or debris will NOT be accepted. Road District personnel will chip all branches into usable mulch, which will be available to residents at no charge. Any excess mulch will be piled in the Senior/Youth Center parking lot and can be picked up any time the park gates are open.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE ACCEPTED FOR A FEE
Computer Monitors and Televisions are accepted for a cost of $1.00 per pound with a cap of $85 total per item. Small college dorm room refrigerators, and wine coolers are accepted for a fee of $15.00 per unit. Cash, check and credit cards are accepted for payment.

EXCEPTIONS AND RESTRICTIONS
No large kitchen appliances or gasoline powered items accepted.

We will provide one semi-trailer every month. Once the trailer is full, the doors will be closed for that date and recycling will resume the next month.
