Behind any great man, there’s always a greater woman, and you’re about to meet her. After nearly forty years of marriage, Joan and Joe Castleman are complements. Where Joe is casual, Joan is elegant. Where Joe is vain, Joan is self-effacing. And where Joe enjoys his very public role as Great American Novelist, Joan pours her considerable intellect, grace, charm, and diplomacy into the private role of Great Man’s Wife. Joe is about to be awarded the Nobel Prize for his acclaimed and prolific body of work. Joe’s literary star has blazed since he and Joan first met in the late 1950s. THE WIFE interweaves the story of the couple’s youthful passion and ambition with a portrait of a marriage, thirty-plus years later–a lifetime’s shared compromises, secrets, betrayals, and mutual love. THE WIFE celebrates a woman who takes back the power that she should rightfully possess–in a thought-provoking, witty, dignified and graceful manner, and with a twist ending that you really don’t see coming; a celebration of womanhood, self-discovery, and liberation.

A DISCUSSION SESSION WILL FOLLOW THE FILM.

“A handsome production that delicately skewers literary-world pretensions and Great Man mythmaking. But primarily,THE WIFE offers viewers a chance to observe one of the finest–and most criminally underpraised–actresses of her generation working at the very top of her shrewd, subtle, superbly self-controlled game.” – Ann Hornaday, WASHINGTON POST

“Soars above the ordinary with a timely narrative and a magnetic performance by Glenn Close that is nothing short of miraculous.” – Rex Reed, OBSERVER

“THE WIFE is that increasingly rare offering, a commercially viable film that also makes you rethink your assumptions about talent and who gets to wield it.” – Daphne Merkin, THE NEW REPUBLIC

“With Glenn Close in the lead role, it’s…unexpectedly poignant and powerful.” – Bruce DeMara, TORONTO STAR

More About this Event Poster: Lorain County Community College

In April of 2014 LCCC launched the MyUniversity plan. MyUniversity is a guarantee that gives high school students the ability to earn college credit and college degrees right at their own high schools through the College Credit Plus program. MyUniversity is one significant way LCCC is delivering on its promise to deepen the impact of the University Partnership program. MyUniversity will enable high school students to even go as far as earning an associate degree simultaneously with their high school diploma. Students can then continue on to earn a bachelor’s degree through LCCC’s University Partnership program. In doing so, students can save over 80 percent of the cost of a bachelor’s degree through MyUniversity, essentially saving families tens of thousands of dollars in college debt.
