More About Elmwood Chapel

Family, respect, honor, professionalism, and compassion drive the Betkowski family every day and enable us to bring those precious commodities to families and friends when in deepest need. When Jim & Lu Betkowski first opened Elmwood Chapel on Chicago’s East Side in 1989, they could little appreciate what their shared devotion and dream would bring in return.

In those 26 years of meeting the needs of those in need and the contributions of many friends and family, Jim & Lu expanded Elmwood Chapel by opening their funeral home in St. John, Indiana to serve their many friends and family, who also relocated their homes and families to Northwest Indiana.

Jim & Lu were further helped along when their sons, Jim, Joe, and Matt who made a career commitment to join the family business. As a result the Betkowski’s were now able to meet a growing community need and open up a third funeral service funeral home with an on-site crematory in Cedar Lake, Indiana. The on-site crematory will enable the Betkowski family to assure you that your loved one will never leave our care whether your services are held on the East Side, St. John, or Cedar Lake. The Betkowski family remains committed to their bedrock principles of family, respect, honor, professionalism, and compassion and are deeply honored to be able to bring that commitment to all their locations.
