KEYNOTE SPEAKER, Jackson Katz, Ph.D.

Jackson Katz, Ph.D., is an anti-sexist activist and expert on violence, media, and masculinities. An author, filmmaker, educator and social theorist, Katz has excelled in gender violence prevention work with diverse groups of men and boys in sports culture and the military, and has pioneered work in critical media literacy.

Katz is the creator and co-founder of the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP), which provides sexual harassment and gender violence prevention/leadership training to institutions in the U.S. and around the world, and advocates the ‘bystander approach’ to sexual and domestic violence prevention. He has long been a major figure and thought leader in the growing global movement of men working to promote gender equality and prevent gender violence.

Katz is the author of two critically acclaimed books, The Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and
How all Men Can Help, and Man Enough? Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and the Politics of Presidential Masculinity.His TEDx Talk is titled, “Violence Against Women—it’s a Men’s Issue”. Or you may have seen him in the award-winning documentary, “MissRepresentation.”

This fundraising event raises awareness about domestic violence and highlights ongoing survivor empowerment and support activities. All proceeds from the event go to support services that the DVCC provides to thousands of victims of domestic violence each year. As the agency’s premiere fundraising event, the luncheon affords significant financial support for SafeHouses and critical programs. All services are offered free of cost.
