This trail workshop will held held as an initial Webinar to be followed by a field session to be scheduled at a later date.

Presenters include Broadmoor staff and professional associates: Jonas Bruggemann, Bill Giezentanner, Elissa Landre

There will be a brief introduction to techniques to maintain existing trails and then address key elements required in the layout and construction of a trail relocation, while keeping sustainability in mind.

The field portion will include trail maintenance exercises such as trimming and clearing, managing trails with roots and rocks and dealing with drainage issues. It will also include trail relocation exercises that will address relocation considerations, flagging, contouring and bench cutting.

This Trails Workshop series is for land managers, conservation professionals, friends groups and volunteers to teach best practices in multi-use trail maintenance and construction, including high-quality and sustainable trail stewardship. Sign up for one or more programs.

Mass Audubon's Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary's offers nine miles of scenic walking trails through fields, woods, and along the Charles River include a 1/4-mile wheelchair accessible trail and boardwalk along Indian Brook. The eco-friendly Visitor Center, a renovated historic horse barn, features solar heat and electricity, rainwater collection and composting toilets. The Nature Center is open: Tues- Fri, 9 a.m. -5 p.m., Sat-Sun, and Mon. holidays, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Trails are open: Tues-Sun, and Mon. holidays, dawn to dusk.
