More About West Cal Empowering Women's Luncheon

Kayla Courvell
The Fox29 Morning Show Anchor/Reporter

Kayla Courvell is one of the hosts of FOX29's Morning Show and the breaking news reporter on KPLC's 7News Sunrise. Born and raised near Pittsburgh, Pa., Kayla had dreams of becoming a TV reporter as a child. After being diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 16, Kayla was more determined than ever to pursue her dream of being on TV and educating others on invisible illnesses.

After college, Kayla packed up her stilettos, pulled on some cowgirl boots and took a job as a bureau reporter in Gillette, Wyo., where she was the only television reporter in Northeast Wyoming. Within a few months, she moved on to become a morning reporter in Rapid City, S.D., where she fell in love with early morning news. After stints of debilitating anxiety and depression, Kayla decided to pack her things and move back to Pennsylvania before taking another shot at TV news in Lake Charles. With her Crohn's in remission, Kayla suffers from anxiety, depression and PTSD as doctors work to find out if a chemical imbalance is causing Bipolar disorder.

Though, none of this can be seen on TV. Her Maltese furbaby, Louie, saved her life in her darkest days and during a quarter-life crisis, she got him a Morkie sister, Gabana Grace. Kayla hopes her struggles and accomplishments can help others in the Lake Area overcome hard times and think twice about what life is truly about.
