More About Downtown at Sundown: Sesquicentennial Time Capsule Burial

The City of Lake Charles Sesquicentennial Planning Committee has announced plans for the final event of the year-long Sesquicentennial Celebration.

A Sesquicentennial Time Capsule will be buried on the grounds of 1911 Historic City Hall (1001 Ryan Street), during Downtown at Sundown on Friday, May 25, 2018. Items are currently being gathered for inclusion in the time capsule which will be slated for opening upon the City’s Bicentennial Celebration in 2067.

Following the burial of the time capsule, Rusty Metoyer and Zydeco Krush will take the stage for week two of the City’s free Downtown at Sundown concert series.

The burial of the time capsule officially close out the celebration that began last May when the Centennial Time Capsule was unearthed. A custom historical exhibit, 150 Years of Lake Charles, a street parade, street fair and fireworks have all been a part of celebrating 150 years of the City.

The Sesquicentennial Celebration is sponsored by American Press, Chalkley Family, CHRISTUS ST. PATRICK Health System, Coca Cola, IBERIABANK, Imperial Health Center for Orthopaedics, JD Bank, KPLC, Lake Charles Memorial Health System, Rick and Donna Richard, Empire of the Seed Historic Properties, Stine, Entergy, Healthy Image Marketing Agency, Pumpelly Oil, Knight Media, Inc., Lake Area Medical Center, Lakeside Bank and Solari Marble and Granite, Co.
