More About Railway Garden at Gabis Arboretum

Celebrate the beginning of this season at the Gabis Arboretum Railway Garden on May 5 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11am.

Stroll through the history of the railroad while enjoying the dwarf conifer collection and miniature landscapes. The last 6 weeks, volunteers and staff have been preparing the Railway Garden for the 2018 season. “We have been cleaning, repairing and setting up the vignettes after having them in storage for the winter months. Another job to prepare for the season is repairing, cleaning, and oiling the locomotives. The track has been cleaned and weeds removed from between the rails,” said Dave Simkowski, Railway Garden Head Engineer. “We are excited to offer extended hours for the Railway Garden this season; trains will run from 9am to 7pm starting May 5 through the month of September, so the preparation has been intense! Railway Garden staff and volunteers look forward to seeing familiar faces as well as new ones this year!"

Start your day May 5 at 10am with a naturalist led hike. This hour long hike will explore the exciting changes the warmer weather brings. Bring a picnic and spend the whole day at the arboretum! Enjoy any of the 6 miles of trails, the yellow blanket of daffodils on Daffodil Hill, visit the new Celebration Rose Pavilion and walk Heron Trail to see the Fairy House Garden Exhibit. All listed events and exhibits are free with admission. For more information, click for details.
