SATIATED: Has Cleveland's Restaurant Industry Bitten Off More Than It Can Chew?
    ZACHARY BRUELL, Chef and restauranteur

Cleveland has become one of the Midwest's top dining destinations. The national food press - Gourmet, Food & Wine, and Esquire - have praised Cleveland's chefs and innovative food scene. The New York Times, Travel + Leisure, and Fodor's all put Cleveland on their "must travel" list, largely on the merit of our restaurants.

Despite the awards and accolades, it can be argued that the city's restaurants are in a tenuous position. While the number of downtown residents are on the rise, they alone cannot sustain the number of restaurants opening in our urban center. Has our city reached restaurant saturation? How do the city's economic development efforts - including business and talent attraction and retention and the proposed minimum wage increase - affect this burgeoning industry?

Join us as chef and restauranteur Zachary Bruell discusses the evolution of the restaurant industry in Cleveland - and what our city and residents need to do to ensure its continued success.

This event will be held in the Parma-Snow Branch. Speakers will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The City Club of Cleveland Friday Forum Series is a vibrant, dynamic and diverse forum for citizens and thought leaders to discuss issues and ideas that shape our region, nation, and the world.

City Club Fridays @ the Library are free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

    - Its themes on war and race as relevant today as they were when it first premiered in 1949, South Pacific strikes a deep chord with its socially conscious story set to some of the most memorable songs ever written for the stage. On an island in the South Pacific, two love stories run parallel as WWII rages in the background: Navy nurse Nellie Forbush falls for French expatriate Emile de Becque, and Marine Lieutenant Joe Cable is enamored by native islander Liat. Can their affections penetrate their ingrained prejudices? Be swept away to “Bail Ha’i” this summer, and set sail to South Pacific!

  • | 7:00pm - 8:30pm | Meeting, Depression And Bipolar Wellness Alliance
    - Welcome to The Depression And Bipolar Wellness Alliance. We offer support groups to all those who suffer from depression, bipolar disorder, and schizo-affective disorder. We promote wellness, provide public education, and resist stigma by raising awareness to the plight of the mentally ill. We foster a safe, compassionate environment and invite you to be vulnerable. It's o.k. to be frustrated, to cry, to hurt, or to share stressful life events. People move from illness to recovery, from isolation to lasting friendships. Many members believe that the support of peers is more beneficial than that offered by mental health professionals, or those who do not suffer from a mental illness.
