    - NONPROFITS URGED TO SUBMIT DAY OF CARING PROPOSALS BY AUGUST 7
If you represent a nonprofit organization, please consider submitting a project proposal for the United Way Volunteer Center’s 26th Annual Day of Caring.
On Thursday, September 10, hundreds of volunteers from local businesses and communities will partner with United Way’s Volunteer Center and other area nonprofit organizations to serve our local neighborhoods through work on community-based projects.
But the Volunteer Center needs your help to find unique and meaningful volunteer projects where willing volunteers can serve and make the most impact in one day.
Your nonprofit (501c3) organization is invited to submit your project needs to United Way’s Volunteer Center. More than one project proposal can be submitted (and may be accepted) but each request must be submitted separately.
Complete a Day of Caring Project Proposal online by going to http://www.uwchatt.org/DayofCaringProposal The deadline for submission is Friday, August 7. All project proposal information and forms can be found online at http://www.liveunitedchattanooga.org or by calling 423-752-0316.
Last year (2014), approximately 600 community volunteers across our region worked diligently to complete more than 40 projects at 48 nonprofit agencies, schools and recreation centers in roughly six to eight hours. These projects ranged from painting houses and building new roofs at local nonprofits to sorting and performing inventories of school supply warehouses, to even refurbishing summer camps. One project was assigned almost two-hundred corporate volunteers.

Agencies with selected projects must agree to a few ground rules:
Your agency must provide proper tools & materials for projects
The project should be able to be completed in one day
The project must have an agency representative assigned to supervise and work with volunteers
The project must not involve hazardous materials
The project should benefit the community as a whole
Your agency agrees to provide lunch, drinks and snacks for the volunteers.

The Volunteer Center draws its volunteers from area corporations and organizations that submit teams to work on the projects of their choice, but individual volunteers are also recruited for these activities. You can get more information and volunteer yourself, your coworkers or your fellow church members by calling Anna Baker with United Way’s Volunteer Center at 423-752-0316. You can also get more information about submitting a proposal by emailing her at annabaker@uwchatt.org.

    - Get ready for a fun filled day of mud and music at the 2015 Chattanooga Mud Run. The muddy 5K race will be held on Saturday, August 15 at 7:30 am at the picturesque Greenway Farms, a 180-acre city park located in Hixson. The cost to enter is $250 for a team of five and $60 for individuals. Proceeds raised from the Chattanooga Mud Run benefits Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area.
