3rd Annual Fighting For a Cause: Anything Over Rice Cook-Off

Our beneficiary this year will be Kade Duhon, age 5, of Maurice, LA. His parents are Tyler Duhon & Alerie Duhon. I’ll share his story that we received from his parents…From the moment he was born, we felt like we were born too. He always just had that special presence about him and still does to this day. Kade is just so bright, smart and literally has a heart of gold. Kade is the true representation of Heaven on earth. A single hug from him reminds us that everything will be okay. He is such a strong human, even after all of his obstacles. Kade is a reflection of Jesus in every season, in every day, and in every moment. Kade’s journey began before his first birthday, when doctors noticed he wasn’t hitting normal newborn milestones. Since then, he has struggled with countless diagnoses due to immunocompromisation and chronic illness. As Kade got older, family noticed that he couldn’t do normal activities for his age and was constantly sick with “different” symptoms. He was constantly tired and struggled to keep up with his peers. Most recently, Kade was diagnosed with Specific Antibody Deficiency and EBV and was put on monthly IVIG infusions, of which he’s had nine. However, his symptoms were not improving, but worsening with additional illnesses. We were sent to Houston Children’s Hospital and are required to return again in a few months. We were told from Houston to stop his IVIG, which we have stopped and noticed improvement in Kade since stopping. Still, we have no answers and we might never get them. Unfortunately, trying to find answers has strained us financially as keeping our boys as healthy as possible, including all the trips, missed work, medical procedures and medications. Our purpose is for our boys. Despite this, we will never stop fighting for our son. We just want Kade to have a normal, healthy childhood.

Tyler & Alerie struggled initially accepting this nomination. After a few conversations and some tears, we were able to tell them this is what the community wants & they were chosen to be blessed. Finally at the end of it all, Alerie said “Everything is so surreal. I prayed all night long. We are just speechless. We are givers and we never accept help and this is just a lot to take in, but it’s God and it’s beautiful. We appreciate this so much. Like I said, speechless but giving it to the man above and our angels!”
