More About Gallery Opening: Sustainable Artist Jocelyn Vache

In May, the Gallery at Central presents Jocelyn Vache: Meaning through Material. Meet the artist at the gallery opening on Friday, May 8, from 5 to 7 pm.

Jocelyn weaves sustainable practice, community engagement, and permaculture (the development of sustainable and self-sufficient ecosystems) throughout her artmaking, teaching, and life. Using homegrown and foraged pigment and fiber and homemade soymilk, Jocelyn abstracts and combines literal and figurative imagery drawn from the environment, current events, and personal experiences. Her work confronts societal double standards and illuminates human blind spots as it glorifies daily acts of nature.

Jocelyn earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts. In addition, she holds LEED Green accreditation, a globally recognized symbol of sustainability leadership. Currently, Jocelyn teaches at a Boston public high school that exclusively serves immigrant youth and multilingual learners. She shows her work throughout New England at museums, galleries, and street-painting festivals..
