More About Indian Rock Nature Preserve

The Indian Rock Nature Preserve is ELCCT’s environmental education facility. With 280-acres of varied habitat, a lake, streams and miles of nature trails.

This is is where the majority of the school programs are taught and is the home of the famous Indian Rock Summer Camp. Indian Rock Nature Preserve is named after Indian Rock, a protected historic rock formation that purportedly provided shelter for the Tunxis Indians and early colonial settlers as they traveled the hunting trail which is now route 69.

Accordingly, in addition to nature programming, Indian Rock Nature Preserve also has a significant Colonial Life and Native American program. The trails and facilities, including two authentic wig wams, provide the perfect setting for people of all ages to learn about our natural and historic heritage. This, coupled with a demonstration farm with an apple orchard, flock of sheep, a cow, chickens and turkeys, provides school groups, scout troupes and families the opportunity to learn about early American life and the rich history right here in Bristol, CT

The crown jewel of IRNP is the Fuller F. Barnes Education Center. This two-level, 12,000 square-foot facility was opened in 2010 and features a Great Room, two classrooms, two workshops/labs and a 130-foot deck overlooking beautiful Indian Lake, the focal point for IRNP’s Summer Camp. The FBEC makes a perfect venue for private functions, conferences and meeting. Please contact us for information regarding our facility rental opportunities.

Please note: Indian Rock Nature Preserve is open for scheduled groups and programs only and does not have public open hours.
