TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES

In Indiana, township trustees are elected officials required by law to provide emergency assistance for basic necessities, which includes, but is not limited to, electric, water, and heating fuel bills. Assistance is not guaranteed; it is based on eligibility, and the trustee must determine if the applicant is in a state of emergency.

You must apply in the township where you live; however, eligibility standards and application processes vary by township. In some instances, a paper application must be received before you are able to obtain an appointment. If you do not know your township, click this link and enter your address. Click for Details
When the information populates, the 7th line will reveal your township.

The trustee must make a decision within 72 hours (excluding weekends and holidays). In emergencies, assistance may be available the same day.
