The 2027 World Famous Gumbo Cook-off (MGSWLA) is the ultimate celebration of flavor, fun, and Southwest Louisiana spirit happening at the Lake Charles Event Center Amphitheater on Saturday, February 6, 2027. Starting at 11:00 a.m., the public can dive into the delicious competition and sample every pot of chicken and sausage, seafood, or wild game gumbo cooked up by amateur and professional teams. Gates open to the public at 9 a.m.

This cherished Mardi Gras tradition brings together local krewes, culinary pros, and gumbo enthusiasts to whip up hundreds of gallons of rich, spicy gumbo. The event is more than just a cookoff – it’s an unforgettable mix of award-winning food, live music, vibrant decorations, and family-friendly fun.

Here’s what to expect:

Cooking kicks off bright and early: Teams begin setup at 6:00 a.m., with gumbo magic starting at 7:30 a.m. sharp. Judging takes place at 11:00 a.m., followed by the public tasting. Pick up begins at 3:00 p.m.
Live entertainment: Groove to live music from a band alternating with a DJ to keep the energy high.
Family-friendly activities: Enjoy fun for all ages, including kids’ activities and art booths.
Spirit & Decoration Contests: Cheer for your favorite krewe as they compete for the coveted “Spirit Stick”, announced at the Mardi Gras Gala.
