More About Four Chaplains Memorial Service
When the US Army Transport Dorchester was torpedoed in February 1943 and sunk off the coast of Greenland, the 4 chaplains, Reverend Fox, Rabbi Goode, Reverend Poling and Father Washington became an enduring example of extraordinary faith, courage and selflessness as they gave up their life jackets and passed them to the civilians and soldiers on the ship. They went down with the ship.
