
More About June 19, 1865 Juneteenth
Juneteenth marks the day when enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The day became a symbol of African American liberation and is now celebrated annually as Juneteenth National Independence Day.
