More About Lake County Solid Waste Management District
The Lake County Solid Waste Management District (LCSWMD) works to protect the environment and reduce waste across Lake County through education, recycling programs, and community services. Established in 1991 by the Indiana State Legislature, the District helps residents, schools, and businesses reduce waste through the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
LCSWMD offers a wide range of programs and services for Lake County residents, including Household Hazardous Waste collection, electronics recycling, tire recycling, appliance drop-off locations, compost distribution, latex paint recycling events, and seasonal leaf collection for unincorporated areas. We also maintain resources to help residents properly recycle or dispose of many other common household materials.
Education is a major part of our mission. Programs include field trips to the Environmental Education Center, classroom visits through the Enviromobile, the Reuse Room for teachers and community groups, and hands-on environmental learning opportunities for students throughout the year.
In addition, we host and participate in community events across Lake County that promote recycling, waste reduction, and environmental awareness.
