More About VIRTUAL/IN-PERSON: Double Indemnity and the Advent of Film Noir

Film historians view director Billy Wilder’s 1944 classic Double Indemnity as groundbreaking on many fronts. In addition to challenging the Hollywood Production Code by converting James M. Cain’s dark novella into cinema, Wilder established a template for many of the “film noir” works that followed, including such memorable works as The Big Sleep, Night and the City, and D.O.A. Richard Knox is the speaker. This is a Zoom presentation that will be shown in the library or can be viewed from home. In-person viewing: No registration required.
