More About Exploring Music in Art
Explore the museum’s collection, looking at musical instruments from different cultures and artworks with connections to music. The tour will include samples of the music when possible.
Depending on what’s on view, this tour may include a Māori flute, Shiva (Lord of the Dance), drums from the Austral Islands and New Ireland, a Mayan bell, a Kango whistle, a Lumbo bow lute, a Mangbeta friction drum, an Egyptian castanet, sculptures of seated female Chinese musicians playing a pipa and a piaxiao, a biwat flute stop, and a gope board to play music from New Guinea sent to space on Voyager’s Golden Record.
