More About Teddy Roosevelt and the American Experience: A Program for Schools and Families

See a live theatrical performance for schools and families based on the life and accomplishments of our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt.

The City of Roswell is proud to present this special America250 school-day performance, which is open to schools, homeschools, senior groups, civic groups the public. It covers Georgia Social Studies Standards for U.S. History.

Joe Wiegand is the world’s premiere Teddy Roosevelt re-enactor. He looks, sounds and acts like President Roosevelt. He is a scholar and historian and answers questions as TR in real time. It is remarkable and often uncanny to experience Joe’s programs and the way he interacts with students and families. For nearly twenty-five years, Joe Wiegand has performed as Theodore Roosevelt, our nation’s 26th President, champion of conservation, progressivism and racial equality.

The show is educational, inspiring and funny. As Teddy Roosevelt, Joe tells stories of his time as president and of and of his adventures, from the cattle country of Dakota Territory to the charge up Kettle Hill in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. He remembers the construction of the Panama Canal, his safari in Africa and his exploration of the River of Doubt in the Amazon.

President Roosevelt’s love of nature inspired him to create National Parks and to set aside vast tracts of land to be preserved for the benefit of all Americans.

TR talks about his alliance with Booker T. Washington, first president of Tuskegee Institute, and the famous White House dinner that was a political risk and a bold declaration of racial equality.

As a champion of progressivism TR supported labor laws to make workplaces safe. He supported limiting workdays and ending child labor. Theodore Roosevelt was a true champion for the American people!

Come and be inspired by the amazing life of President Theodore Roosevelt.
