More About DATA CENTER VOTE - LAKE COUNTY COUNCIL FINAL ZONING VOTE
📣 PLEASE ATTEND — LAKE COUNTY COUNCIL FINAL ZONING VOTE
On Tuesday, June 9th at 10:00 a.m., the Lake County Council will take final action on the proposed Project Shirley data center rezoning in South Lake County/Eagle Creek Township. A tentative agenda has been published at the time of this post.
📍 Lake County Government Complex
Building A, 3rd Floor
This is a weekday morning meeting, and in-person attendance is extremely important. A visible turnout is one of the clearest ways to demonstrate public engagement as the Council considers whether this rezoning is consistent with long-term county planning.
🟢 Wear green in support of agricultural zoning and farmland preservation.
At the May 20th Plan Commission hearing, the proposal advanced with a “no recommendation” following a tied vote process on an unfavorable recommendation.
Key planning concerns included:
• Consistency with the Lake County Comprehensive Plan
• Protection of prime agricultural land and zoning integrity
• Strain on rural infrastructure and utility capacity
• Aquifer and groundwater resource sustainability
A motion for a moratorium was introduced by Commissioner Frank Kalvitits during deliberations but did not advance.
Thank you to Commissioner Paul Panczuk for his support of the Comprehensive Plan during the Plan Commission process.
This decision now rests with the Lake County Council, which has final authority over zoning.
