More About Sacramento Juneteenth Festival
The Sacramento Juneteenth Festival is a two-day event that celebrates the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. On June 19, 1865 those still enslaved in Galveston Texas were notified by General Granger of the Union Army that from this day forth all those enslaved were now freed. The declaration was sent by President Abraham Lincoln to inform the state of Texas that all enslaved were freed in accordance with the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
This year’s two-day festival kicks off with the Friday night “Gospel Under the Stars” concert from 6:00 -9:00 p.m. Saturday’s festival in the park will include two stages of live entertainment, Juneteenth Parade, health/wellness row, arts and educational theater, a community soldier awards presentation, a kids' area, over 80 food/ware vendors, presentations by the mayor/city council, and much more.
