More About The Dirty Dozen Brass Band
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band brings the unmistakable spirit of New Orleans to Paramount Hudson Valley on November 13. Celebrating more than 45 years since their founding in 1977, the GRAMMY Award-winning ensemble has transformed the traditional foundation of brass band music into a vibrant blend of bebop jazz, funk, and R&B/soul. The band describes its signature sound as a “musical gumbo,” a fitting phrase for a group known for genre-bending romps and high-octane performances.
Born from the Dirty Dozen Social Aid and Pleasure Club in New Orleans, the band carries forward two rich Crescent City traditions: social aid and pleasure clubs and the brass bands that helped shape the earliest sounds of jazz. In those traditions, music could move from somber reflection to joyful celebration, with brass bands leading processions before bursting into jubilant dance tunes that filled the streets. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band took that history and pushed it forward, creating a sound rooted in tradition but alive with modern energy.
Over the course of their remarkable career, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band has toured across five continents and more than thirty countries, recorded twelve studio albums, and collaborated with artists ranging from Modest Mouse to Widespread Panic to Norah Jones. Featuring Roger Lewis, Gregory Davis, Kirk Joseph, Trevarri Huff-Boone, Stephen Walker, Julian Addison, and Takeshi Shimmura, the band remains a world-famous music machine whose name is synonymous with the power, joy, and soul of New Orleans brass.
*As a reminder, no outside food or drink permitted in the venue. Any patron found with outside alcohol, is subject to removal. Backpacks and large bags are not permitted inside of the venue. All guests are subject to bag checks and security wanding upon entry.
