More About Biesecker Library: Somerset Oral History Project: Share Your Story!

Do you, or someone you know have a story about Somerset history to share? The Biesecker Library invites you to take part in our Somerset Oral History Project as part of the America 250 celebrations. Residents of Somerset can join us for an informal Q&A session with one of our librarians or volunteers, to record your memories of growing up and living in Somerset. This event is sponsored by our Celebrating America Flex Grant through the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.

What is an oral history?

An oral history is a method of gathering and preserving history through the collection of personal testimony - in this, one-on-one interviews.

Why record an oral history?

Oral histories are an important way for communities to save their history. They offer a fuller perspective, not just recording major events and notable figures, but the day-to-day experiences of average people.

How can I help?

We’re inviting YOU to a one-on-one interview with a librarian to record your stories of living in Somerset, how the town has changed over the years, and what America means to you on the 250th anniversary of independence.

Where can I sign up?

If you’re interested, please call (814-445-4011) or visit the library, or visit our website (maryslibrary.com) to schedule an interview! We can be flexible based on your availability. Use the online sign up form: Click for Details
