Cruise down to Smithville for 2026 Labor Day celebration
SMITHVILLE, IN – The Smithville Area Association is proud to announce this year’s Labor Day celebration will be Monday, Sept. 7, 2026.
Smithville School closed in the 1970s, but the community has remained dedicated to preserving its history and the facilities that now serve as a community center and park. Each year on Labor Day, longtime residents and new visitors alike gather for a celebration that has become a local staple over the past 30+ years. Proceeds from this day help fund community projects and outreach throughout the year through the Smithville Area Association, a 501(c)3 group of volunteers.
This year’s celebration kicks off at 10am at the park, 7555 S. Strain Ridge Rd, running until 4pm.
The 34th annual Cruisin’ Classics Car, Truck & Bike Show, hosted by Cruisin’ Classics car club, always draws a crowd, with more than 200 annual entries in recent years. Registration will be 8am to noon, with a show entry fee of $20/vehicle (cash or check). Awards will be announced at 3:30pm in categories such as Furthest Traveled, Best Jeep, and Oldest Driver. Donate canned goods for the Community Kitchen at the car club booth for a chance to win prizes.
Live music is planned throughout the day, with the Bloomington Brass Band taking the stage at 10am. At noon, the highly anticipated Brett Denney of BD32 Music, based out of Columbus, will bring his solo acoustic act to Smithville, covering a range of genres from pop & rock to country. Annual favorite Danny Todd will round out the afternoon, with a 2pm performance. Bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the music in the shade.
Breakfast will be available for purchase starting at 8:30am for early arrivals. Lunch will follow, with hearty bowls of cornbread and beans available in the shelter house, and local favorite food trucks the Shuckers Shak and the Sugar Shack will be serving up festival favorites.
The Smithville Historical Museum in Red Men Hall will be open to visitors, with displays & mementos bringing the community’s history to life. Additionally, be sure to check out vendors in the park offering handmade & home-crafted goods, and there will be inflatables & a dunk tank to keep the kids entertained.
Parking is available at the former Smithville School or the adjacent baseball diamonds, and shuttle service is available from the nearby Smithville Christian Church. Don’t miss Smithville’s biggest celebration of the year!
No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the grounds. No outside music, please, and no skateboards or bicycles in the car show area. Animals must be leashed.
