Thousands of anthropologists from around the world will gather in St. Louis for the American Anthropological Association’s 2026 Annual Meeting, centered on the theme “On the Verge.”

Over five days, researchers, educators, students, museum professionals, policymakers and practitioners will explore what it means to live through a period of profound transition and how anthropology can help us understand the choices individuals, communities and institutions face amid rapid cultural and technological change.

The meeting will feature groundbreaking research, emerging ideas and conversations spanning topics including migration, Indigenous sovereignty, environmental resilience, technological innovation and the future of human society. Attendees will also have opportunities to build interdisciplinary partnerships, connect with mentors and colleagues, and explore the ways anthropology informs public health, artificial intelligence, cultural heritage, education, business strategy and public policy.
