More About Science of Art: Glass Working
WonderLab is teaming up with the Bloomington Creative Glass Center for Science of Art: Glass Working — and things are about to get hot.
Glass has a secret double life: it cuts, melts, and moves in ways that seem almost magical (spoiler: it's all science). Get hands-on with activities for all ages — try your hand at glass fusing, create a mosaic to take home, or discover the surprising, sweet-toothed properties glass shares with sugar.
Activities:
Glass Fusing
Make a Heart, Take a Heart —a fun twist on the usual take-home project. Make an unfinished glass heart to leave behind, then choose a finished one — made by a previous visitor — to take home instead. Your piece then heads to BCGC to be finished, ready for the next person to discover. It's a little chain of glass-making that keeps going, visitor to visitor, round after round.
Larger Projects — more involved, creative pieces for older children and adults; pieces are finished off-site by BCGC and available for pickup at their studio. Limited availability.
Mosaics
Glass Scoring Station (ages 8+) — try your hand at the scoring techniques used in glasswork
Bottlecap & Jar Lid Mosaics — make your own mini mosaic to take home as a pin, magnet, or ornament.
Jolly Rancher Fusion / Suncatcher
Use real fused-glass techniques on Jolly Rancher shards to create edible art.
