More About Crown Point Hosting Inaugural Coffin Cup
The City of Crown Point is partnering with First United Methodist Church to host the inaugural Crown Point Coffin Cup.
The event races into downtown Crown Point at 1 p.m. Oct. 24. The race will take place immediately following the City’s Pumpkin Walk in the historic Crown Point square, with teams set to race 100 yards south on Main Street.
“We are always looking for new, unique ways to draw people to our historic downtown square. The Pumpkin Walk is already such a big seasonal draw, so we decided to expand the event by partnering with First United Methodist Church,” said PACE Director Adam Graper. “We’re excited to see the community response and hope to make this an annual event.”
There is no registration fee, but teams must build their own coffin racer. Teams must represent a registered non-profit organization or choose a non-profit organization to race for. Teams must consist of six people — four people to push the coffin, an alternate pusher and a ghost rider to man the coffin.
The fastest team will win $2,500 toward their charity of choice. The Spirited Award winner — those who stun the crowd with a themed racer and costumes — will receive $500 toward their charity of choice.
“We're really excited about the Coffin Cup! It’s the kind of event that brings our community together, gets people laughing, and it's all for charity,” said Pastor Mark Wilkins, of First United Methodist Church of Crown Point. “This is going to be the weirdest, coolest race Crown Point has seen, so we invite folks to create a team to compete, sponsor the event, or come on down to watch this momentous race!"
