More About Music at Butler Series: Butler University Wind Ensemble

The Butler University Wind Ensemble presents “From Sea to Shining Sea” in collaboration with the United States Navy Band Brass Quintet, and their conductor and head of Navy Music worldwide, Commander Robert “Seph” Coats. This concert is presented through funding received from the National Endowment for the Arts America at 250 Award, which provided financial support for this collaboration, as well as public-school concerts in Pike Township and Warren Township on November 18, 2026.

Graduate conducting student Collin Cerny opens the concert with music of Johan De Meij, followed by the Navy Brass Quintet performing New York Cityscapes by Jeff Tyzik. Our concert continues with American band classics Ballad for Band, by Morton Gould, and The Promise of Living, by Aaron Copland. We close the concert with an homage to American Military Bands with Captain Coats at the podium.
