More About The Difference Between a Surge Protector and a Circuit Breaker ⚡

A surge protector and a circuit breaker both protect your electrical system, but they are designed to deal with very different problems.

1. A circuit breaker protects against excessive current: If a circuit draws more current than it should, the breaker is designed to interrupt the power and protect the wiring.

2. A surge protector handles voltage spikes: Surge protection is designed to help limit sudden increases in voltage that can damage sensitive electronics.

3. One does not replace the other: A breaker is not a substitute for surge protection, and a surge protector is not designed to replace the safety function of a breaker. ⚠️

Think of them as different layers of protection, not two versions of the same device.

If you are unsure what protection your home currently has, do not start opening the electrical panel yourself. Safe & Sound Electric can evaluate the system and explain what is there and what may be missing. Schedule a protection review today. 👨‍🔧
