Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee provides age appropriate programs for youth with the focus being Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles. In the area of Academic Success, the Club supports members’ school success through such efforts as homework help and school readiness, engages members in fun, hands-on activities to practice and learn reading, writing, speaking, math and scientific inquiry and provides extra help for members who have difficulty mastering academic content and skills. One program offered is Science Buddies. Science Buddies allows staff to find projects in all areas of science from physics to food science and music to microbiology. KidLitz is a reading enrichment program. In the area of Good Character and Citizenship the Club engages members in Club and/or community-based service, teaches rights and responsibilities of citizenship and introduces concepts of good character, encourage civility and tolerance, and recognize good behavior. Club members as part of the Year of Service in 2015 thus far have volunteered at High Hopes Therapeutic Pre School, delivered for Meals on Wheels and worked with the Manger and Fuel Bag programs at GraceWorks Ministries. In the area of Healthy Lifestyles, the Club teaches members about basic nutrition and healthy eating, provides multiple ways for members of all ages to engage in fitness activities, track fitness activity levels and reach out to inactive members and teaches decision-making skills. Girls ages 8 to 18 participate in SMART Girls and boys ages 11 to 14 participate in Passport to Manhood.
