More About De Pere Christian Outreach
OUR BACKGROUND: In 1990 two small mission projects (one distributing clothing from a garage and the other food from a church closet) brought eight De Pere churches together to discuss the needs of our community. Each church donated $100 seed money to form one very special organization, De Pere Christian Outreach, which includes a Thrift Store (506 Butler St.), a Food Pantry (1827 Chicago St.) started in 2012, and a Christmas Store Program, which was started in 2018 to help provide JOY and assistance to families in need during the holiday season. From that initial $800, through Thrift Store sales and cash donations, DPCO has ever since been self-sustaining and thriving. No additional money (or membership fees) has ever been asked of our churches, nor do we receive any government funding.
FOUNDING CHURCHES: First Congregational United Church of Christ, First United Presbyterian, Hope Lutheran, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic, St. Anne’s Episcopal, St. Francis Xavier Catholic, St. John Lutheran, and St. Mary Catholic.
VOLUNTEERS AND "1" PAID STAFF: Due to do our tremendous growth, in 2019 we hired an Operations Manager to oversee both the Food Pantry and the Thrift Store which is staffed entirely by over 250 volunteers.
GIVING BACK: Profits generated go back into the community. In 2021, actual cash donations of over $314,678 funded over 48 different non-profit organization, over $12,000 in client assistance for gas, rent and utilities was disbursed. In addition, we are also fortunate to be able to share our bounty of items with others such as: local shelters, animal shelters, outreach projects, schools, etc.
