    - Explore the work of UL Lafayette Professor of Visual Arts, Steven Breaux. This talk is presented as a part of the ArtSpark award from Lafayette Economic Development Authority and the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
Professor Steven Breaux will focus on “Waking Space: The Emerging Art Object, Quantum Theory, and Algorithmic Art” referencing the transitional space between the idea and its materialization. Where does one end and the other begin? What is the “nature” of the transitional area? Paintings are physical objects and the end result of ideas, concepts, and belief systems. How is a digital image, as the end result of a series of algorithms, different than a physical painting? What is the relationship of perception and matter to the process of artistic creation? These questions have led him to relate art processes to certain experiments and concepts of quantum theory through artistic experimentation. “Waking Space” is a solo exhibit at the Acadiana Center for the Arts on display from October 14 – December 16, 2017.

Originally, Sharing Circle covered specific topics in specific religions with a presenter, akin to a workshop. Today, Sharing Circle is much more discussion based. Participants focus on one question per gathering and share their experiences and perspectives with others. The experience is both challenging and informational. Many participants state that they are asked to evaluate their beliefs logically and to entertain ideas you may not have considered before.

    - Ten years ago Ray LaMontagne released his first album, TROUBLE, the gold certified start to a fiercely ambitious, Grammy Award winning, critically praised career that is encompassed three more albums, several EPs, a slew of soundtrack compilations and arresting live performances fronting a variety of ensembles. It certainly feels like some time has passed, LaMontagne says now. But I have to say, boy, time flies. And LaMontagne is still having fun all these years later and with his fifth album, SUPERNOVA, maybe more fun than ever.

Fun things to do in Lafayette

Since 1986 the Town Planner Calendar has been keeping families across America up-to-date about events and other fun things to do right in their hometown.

Delivered free of charge every December to millions of homes across America, our full-sized, full-color calendar is a time-tested and beloved tool for helping families stay organized. The large date blocks are not only loaded with lots of nearby events and fun things to do, there's plenty of room for you to record your own family's important events like birthdays, anniversaries, parties -- anything you have planned -- so everybody in the house can see them whenever they go to the fridge, out the front door, or wherever you choose to display it.

But there's more! Every calendar is full of coupons from popular local merchants, so you can save money while supporting small businesses right in your hometown.

And don't miss our beautiful full-color photography! Every month you'll recognize a new photo from someplace close to home, submitted to us by a local photographer. If you'd like to have your own hometown photos included in our calendar, please contact your local publisher for more information.

We truly believe it's better to "keep it local". From coast to coast and border to border, our network of franchisees work with organizations and merchants right in their community to make sure you get the information and savings you care about. We prefer to feature family-friendly events that are a short walk or drive away, and coupons from local businesses so you can support your hometown economy.

If there's something happening close to home that folks in your neighborhood need to know about, why not submit it to us today? Please note that publication of your event is subject to approval by your local Town Planner publisher.

If there's no Town Planner calendar in your area, you could be looking at a great business opportunity! Town Planner franchisees set their own hours and can work out of their homes while providing a valuable service to both homeowners and local businesses in the area.
